Summer of Festivals
One of the coolest wonders you can witness during the summer semester in Germany is the awakening of the vibrant festival culture this country offers. Not unknown to anyone, the summer semester break tends to be loud…VERY LOUD! And fun; with lots of opportunities to dance, sing, get together and share a feeling of fullness, freedom, and happy life celebration. That’s what festivals are all about. There is something for everyone, from the huge-well known festivals to the more local, free open-air events.
FACTS AND NUMBERS
Did you know that every second German attends a music event at least occasionally during this season? I honestly don’t know how they do it, since ticket prices have risen a lot in recent years. According to the Statista analysis from 2021, around 16% of this concert and festival visitors are students. I guess many receive tickets as a birthday or Christmas gift from their relatives.
Other interesting facts and numbers:
- Their preferred sleeping arrangement is camping: 70% of attendees camp onsite.
- The most popular genre for music festivals in Germany is techno (81%), followed by EDM (61%), trance/psytrance (39%), hip-hop (38%), rock (19%), indie (8%), and metal (6%).
- The most visited music festival in Germany (2023) was Rock am Ring, with 90,000 attendees.
- Most festival visitors attend in groups of 3-9 persons.
- The favorite drink is beer.
