Important welcome information for newly enrolled students (winter term 2018/19)

Welcome to the M.A. programme English-Speaking Cultures: Language, Text, Media at Bremen University!

Please find some important information below.

1) Visa problems

If you have questions concerning visa problems, please contact apply@uni-bremen.de or master@uni-bremen.de Unfortunately, the university of Bremen does not defer your admission until next winter or summer semester; if you cannot take up your studies by the beginning of December at the latest, you will have to re-apply for the next winter semester 2019/20.

2)  Welcome session and introduction to the study programme

All students enrolled for the upcoming winter term are warmly invited to join us for an official welcome session on Tuesday 9th October 2018 from 2:00 p. m. to 4:00 p.m. Meet the faculty staff and fellow students and receive first-hand information on how to get started in the following week! Please do attend this session.

Location: SFG 0140 -„Seminar- und Forschungsverfügungsgebäude“ (Enrique-Schmidt-Straße). The room is located on the ground floor.

In your first term of this two-year programme, we would like you to register for the following modules/courses:

Orientation module (15 CP)
10-M76-1-OrMo-06 Lecture Series: Studying English-Speaking Cultures – Topics, Theories and Methods (6 CP – 1,5 hours per week)

Two further courses as advertised in the online course catalogue “Orientation module” (4 SWS)

UEP Part 1 – Using English in the Professional World (6 CP)
10-M76-1-UEP 1-01 Using English in the Professional World (6 CP – 2×1,5 hours per week)

SuStMo – Supplementary Studies Module (9 CP)
Students may opt for language courses offered both by Faculty 10 and the Foreign Language Centre (Fremdsprachenzentrum Bremen – FZHB), relevant courses and lecture series offered both by Faculty 10 and other faculties, or receive credit points for additional internships and academic exchange to Anglophone countries.

How to register for your courses: Stud.IP https://elearning.uni-bremen.de/

Please be aware that course registration on Stud.IP, the University’s learning and teaching platform, is mandatory. All enrolled students will receive their Stud. IP login details as part of the enrollment pack. In the unlikely event that you have NOT received your login details you need to contact lecturers directly via email. Please login and search for your courses using the course code as provided in the online course catalogue. Select the courses you wish to attend and register for these courses on Stud.IP. You may wish to change the language option:

a) Before you login – click on “English”
b) After login – click on “profile” (right-hand top corner) – click on “Settings/Einstellung” and select “English”
