How do interview transcriptions work?

Interview transcriptions attempt to turn the audio recording of an interview into writing without manipulating the information given. Therefore, they are different from the interviews you can find in newspapers, for example, in so far as they do not leave out any filler words or half-finished sentences. Every utterance is transcribed as closely to the original as possible. Although, this method might make it more difficult to read the interview, it is more convenient as it is less influenced by the researcher.

In order to be able to read and fully understand the interview transcriptions of my interviews, you will need this table explaining the meaning of the symbols used.
