What are Integrative Memos

An integrative memo is a short text which further describes and specifies the respective category. It serves to link all incidents occurring in the data which are related to the category (Emerson et al. 1995: 162). Thus, it helps not only to get an overview over all aspects of the category but also, as Emerson et al. describe it, to “develop theoretical connections between fieldnote excerpts” (1995: 164).
