The Initial Idea

The initial idea for this research project arose from a class about “Indigenous Peoples and the Decolonialisation of Science” which I took at the University of Bremen as part of my Bachelor of Arts program with a major in Cultural Studies. One of the many issues discussed in this class were the difficulties indigenous people from around the world face in tertiary education. Methods of teaching and learning which are essential to their culture, such as storytelling, sharing knowledge amongst equals and connecting it to experience and spirituality, are often considered un-scientific and are consequently banned from universities.
