Yoga with Adriene

Adriene offers a wide range of yoga videos on YouTube suitable for every level. A solid amount of her workouts targets specific areas. With her calming voice and her dog Benny she eases her yogis into the practice. She takes the strictness out of the sport by adding a few funny comments and fun is exactly what we should be having when working out.

Check out her channel on https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene and tell me which of her practices is your favourite.

Coachedbydan

Dan (@coachedbydan), apart from his Irish charm, offers the truth. That is something I really like about his feed. No long explanations or pages to bring across his point but sharp and short but meaningful sentences.  There is no advertising of products, but rather having a critical eye on the many ads you’re seeing all over your social media. What’s more, is that he brings across this crucial information in a very humorous but still convincing way.

Apart from clarifying the many fitness rumours, Dan also gives a lot of intriguing input in his podcasts and shows that being fit includes having a hell of a good time.

His daily e-mail newsletter has become my morning literature. Make sure to also check out his website and his free E-Book on https://www.coachedbydan.com/online-coaching

Dancertuts

I quite envy those people who just get up and start dancing in the middle of the city. And then I am wondering how the hell they manage to master these amazing moves. Still failing to do the floss :|. Dancertuts is an account that takes exactly into focus: Posting step by step instructions to different dance moves and sequences from all over the world.

Llucmafitfitness

LLucmafitfitness is an instagram account that offers short workout videos via Instagram.  It’s hosted by a local gym from Mallorca. This is really helpful when your looking for some inspiration on your own workout.

Be aware! Spanish ALERT! Do you speak Spanish? If not, have you ever done a workout in a language you don’t speak? It’s great fun, although sometimes you’re missing out on important posture information. Then  it’s even more important to observe the body language which has helped me improve my skills in reading body language.

Will you  join us on our travel to Mallorca @llucmafitfitness ?

FitOn

My personal new born love in the era of fitness apps. When activating FitOn you are welcomed with a motivational quote. No avertisement, no demands, no nothing at this point. Just you, this quote a a short moment to embody it. After a second or two you’ll be brought to the main page where your programme appears (not when opening the app for the first time though, you’ll need to go through the questionnaire first). At the top of the page the amount of workouts per week that you have selected will appear. These have been selected to accord your progress and interests. In the workouts themselves you have a calory clock visible as you go along. On the programme page you’ll also find an option to chill out with some light yoga and stretching. Further down, you can access a daily blog entry about topics that deal with fitness.

In the browse section you can search the library using different methods. You can search by different categories such as stretching or circuits, by challenges, certain target areas or requirements towards the workout such as time and intensity. You can even make an inquiry by trainers and some featured celebrities. In the advice section you have access to blogs and videos ranging from actual fitness, to nutrition and health.

Another highlight of the app is for you customised meal plans. You will go through another questionnaire when you enter the meal plan section. Things of importance are your eating habits, your likes and dislikes and intolerances. You’ll get a whole new meal plan day by day. A note here: the actual recipes are only accessible when you have the Premium version of the app. But hey, the meal plans can serve as inspiration and orientation and offer us to get creative.

You can also connect with friends. What I really like about the app apart from the highlights is that it is non-competitive and self-reflective.

Are you and I maybe sharing the same FitOn love?

Adidas Training (by Runtastic)

Opening the Adidas Training by Runtastic app, you are welcomed with your daily recommended workout. Recommended does not mean it is mandatory. Scrolling down a bit you will see guided workouts that coaches have recorded for you, challenges that engage to work together and reach our goals, a workout customiser which lets you focus on one or two areas or select all and do a whole body workout, the latest workouts with the most views and short workouts when time is what is holding you back from getting into the squad.

In the progress section you have the opportunity to keep track of your achievements by uploading photos. These are for you and only you. The app keeps them private. The pictures serve to motivate you if weight loss or toning is your fitness goal and show how you progress along the way. You can also go ahead and ignore the opportunity since this might not be your goal and the feature thus irrelevant. On the same page you find articles around nutrition. Some of them are accessible for free. The newsfeed also provides you with information and blog entries around fitness in general. In the plan section you have access to some free workout plans that range from 3 to 6 weeks. Overall, by using the app you collect points and followingly level up (in a virtual and physical sense).

Nike Training Club

Nike Training Club offers you workouts from left to right, from top to bottom, back and forth. After having answers a few questions you will receive recommendations that are best for your own goal. In the feed you might find some helpful tips around workouts, lifestyle and motivation.

myfitnesspal (by Under Armour)

myfitnesspal is an virtual log book for you to keep track of your fitness. On the front page you’ll find a summary of your latest progress. In other menu options you’ll find the categories to enter your nutrition and your training. In the nutrition log book section you will find multiple ways of how to note down the food you consume. Soooo, you will not need to type in every single gram in the log book. As your journal grows you’ll be able to refer back to some of your regular recipes or meals. You can set these in advance as well. When adding food to the log book you can scan the bar codes of the packages (unless you live package free :D). Going to a restaurant? Locate it with the app and select the dish you ate. No strings (hypothesing all the ingredients included) attached.

When adding your workout you’ll just have to answer three questions: How long and how many calories burnt (and the time of day). This information is mostly provided by many workout providers. The app then calculates your fitness statistics. You have two co-working statistics going on at the same time: your fitness level in a line chart and your nutrition in a pie chart (what a coincidence: a pie chart and my cravings for a pie now 🙁 ).
