WissensWert (WWUB) is celebrating its first anniversary! On September 2, 2025, the “WissensWert – Teaching and Learning at Universität Bremen” portal went live. Now is the perfect time to celebrate our achievements and set our sights on new goals.
What makes WissensWert special is that it is tailored specifically to the teaching and learning environment at Universität Bremen. The portal showcases teaching concepts, best practices, and support services developed and implemented right here on campus. Because these resources are local, instructors can easily connect with colleagues across various faculties to adapt concepts or collaborate. Furthermore, the tools featured are available to Universität Bremen staff and comply with GDPR standards.
Over the past year, we have published more than 60 articles and a comprehensive range of teaching materials. We have also integrated revised resources from the Inspiration for Teaching (Inspiration Lehre) section of the completed “konstruktiv” project and released a completely revamped Copyright Decision-Making Guide (Entscheidungshilfe Urheberrecht) that reflects the current legal situation.
On average, 300 users visit WissensWert each month for teaching inspiration. Since its launch, over 11,000 users have explored the portal and accessed its materials.
In addition to the “News & Events” section—which highlights activities and publications from the teaching community at Universität Bremen and across the German-speaking world—users can now stay up-to-date on new content via our newsletter.
Origins in the SKILL-UB Project
The portal emerged from the “SKILL-UB” project (Student-Centered | Collaborative | Innovative – Teaching and Learning at Universität Bremen), funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education. The goal was to ensure that all results and materials produced during the SKILL project reached teaching staff through this “knowledge base,” allowing them to adopt, adapt, and further develop these ideas.
Sustainability was a key focus of the planning process. Too often, project outcomes are abandoned once funding ends; WissensWert prevents this by documenting concepts and materials and keeping them available for ongoing use and development.
In the meantime, WWUB has expanded on the original concept and regularly offers new texts and materials on all topics related to teaching and learning at the University of Bremen. Our broad spectrum of content includes “Subject-Specific Resources at the State and University Library Bremen“, “Data Literacy: An Interactive Competency Grid for Instructors” and “A Guide to Teaching With a Focus on Anti-Discrimination” from Faculty 12. One of our most popular resources is the educational game “Hey, What Do You Need?,” developed during the SKILL project to encourage active engagement with the specific learning needs of student groups.
Field-Tested and Approved
We are increasingly incorporating the lived experiences of students and teaching staff members, marked with our “Approved” badge, to move our content beyond mere theory. Students share their perspectives on specific methods or innovations—what worked for them and what didn’t. Lecturers offer practical implementation tips and share why certain approaches may vary by group. These testimonials are constantly expanding, even in older articles. Looking Ahead
What is next for the WissensWert editorial team? Our biggest challenge for the coming year is the gradual translation of all content and accompanying materials into English. We also plan to refine the portal’s categorization; while the current sections are based on the Mission statement for teaching and learning at the University of Bremen, we want them to better reflect the diversity of our contributions.
