Seetzen shows deep interest in the description and collection of musical instruments, used in 1800-Istanbul. He mentions a lot of instruments in different cultural, social and religious contexts, e.g. weddings, dances and religious ceremonies. So he is not only giving descriptions on the shape and characteristics of instruments, but often gave information on the use and it’s embedding in peoples everyday life.

For his patron, the count of Gotha, he collected several instruments, which he mentions by name and price.

 

Für die Sammlung des Herzogs von Gotha sammelt er auch eine Menge Instrumente, die er beschreibt und die Preise die er für den Kauf bezahlt.

Seetzen gibt an einer Stelle (S. 294-295) eine ausführliche Auflistung verschiedener Instrumente aus einem Katalog, der wahrscheinlich von Kantemir verfasst wurde. Dort wird in drei Bereiche unterteilt.

1. Musikinstrumente die bei Hofe bei Paraden und Empfängen gespielt werden
   a) Daone. Tambour ou Caisse

b) Zaurna. Haute bois, d’un son tres aigre.

 

1. c) Deux Nagarás. Petits Timbales, accordes in quinte.
2. d) Zil. Cimbales.
3. e) Borou. Espece de trompettes excéssivement mal faites & d’un son tres fauy.
4. f) Koms. Grand Timbal.
