Abstract:

In this presentation we are going to explore the connection between second language learning and culture in a study that took place in a Primary School class and how this could enhance their communicative competence. This study shows the benefits of including culture context and cultural awareness since the very beginning of the students’ contact with a new language as it will increase not only their understanding but also improve their relationship with it. Therefore, the study shows the importance of fostering curiosity and sympathy for other cultures to help students in their journey of second language acquisition.
