English use in social media: A view from the Nordic regio<\/strong>n<\/p>\n

This presentation discusses research that combines World Englishes and digital humanities (DH). I will first give a short overview of DH as a field and then present the Nordic Tweet Stream, a cross-disciplinary digital humanities project that downloads Twitter messages from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. I will (only briefly) introduce some of the technical aspects in creating a real-time monitor corpus that grows every day, and then present two case studies that illustrate how the corpus could be used as empirical evidence in studies focusing on the global spread of English.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
