Nowadays called the <em>Tekfur Sarayi (&#8222;Palace of the Sovereign&#8220;),\u00a0<\/em>the building was\u00a0also known as\u00a0<em>Porphyrogennetos-Palace. <\/em>The impressive palace is one of the last examples of secular Byzantine buildings in Istanbul and located next to the old Theodosian Walls in the district of <a href=\"http:\/\/whc.unesco.org\/en\/decisions\/252\">Balat<\/a>. The building is now under restoration and preparation to install it as a museum.<\/p>\n<p>In the following sections Seetzen describes his way along the Theodosian Walls to the Palace of Belisar (6th of March) and gives later a brief portray of the palace (2nd of April).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>6. March 1803<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8222;Um 9 Minuten vor halb 2 Uhr waren wir in Ejub, wo die Mauer von Constantinopel von der Landseite sich im Hafen endigt. [&#8230;] Die W\u00e4rme hate schon viele gr\u00fcne Eidechsen hervorgelockt, welche in dem Mauerwerke h\u00e4ufig herumliefen. Nachdem wir eine Zeitlang l\u00e4ngs der Mauer hingegangen waren, so kamen wir neben Belisairs sogenanntes Haus vorbey, ein viereckiges, sehr mittelm\u00e4\u00dfiges Geb\u00e4ude, innerhalb und dicht an der Stadtmauer. Der trockene Stadtgraben, der gar nicht breit und tief ist, wird ietzt zu allerhand Gartengew\u00e4chsen, besonders Artischocken benutzt. Feigenb\u00e4ume stehen h\u00e4ufig in demselben.&#8220; <\/em>(Seetzen 2013: S. 176)<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. April 1803<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201e[&#8230;]In einiger Entfernung von der Glasfabrik an der Mauer ist der sogenannte Pallast des Belisarius. Belisar war Feldherr unter dem Kaiser Justianian. Es ist ein drey Stock hohes Geb\u00e4ude ohne Dach; denn das ietzige Dach \u00fcber dem 2ten Stock ist sp\u00e4ter dar\u00fcber gebaut und schlecht genug. Es bildet ein l\u00e4nglichtes Viereck und ist aus Quadern und Ziegelsteinen erbaut. Die Bauart ist artig genug. Der untere Stock \u00f6ffnet sich mit 4 hohen Bogen gegen den Hof, ist gew\u00f6lbt und dieses Geb\u00e4ude ruhet auf 10 S\u00e4ulen korinthischer Ordnung, wovon die innern aus schmutzig wei\u00dfem Marmor, die 4 \u00e4u\u00dfern aber aus Granit bestehen.
