On January 11, 2022, the death of President Sassoli was announced to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n

The editorial staff of the EuropaBlog of the Integrated European Studies department of Bremen University expresses its warmest condolences to President Sassoli’s family, friends, and colleagues.<\/span><\/p>\n

President Sassoli has been a member of the European Parliament since 2009 and has served as its president since July 3, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before going into politics, he was a journalist and a widely popular news anchor in Italian television.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to his colleagues, he was a true democrat and a strong supporter of a united Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

May President Sassoli’s achievements, ideas, and values be remembered and serve as inspiration for democrats and Europeans today and in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Am 11. Januar 2022 erfuhr die \u00d6ffentlichkeit vom Tod von Pr\u00e4sident Sassoli.<\/span><\/p>\n

Die Redaktion des Europablogs der Integrierten Europastudien der Universit\u00e4t Bremen dr\u00fcckt hiermit den Angeh\u00f6rigen, Freunden und Kollegen von Pr\u00e4sident Sassoli ihre tiefste Anteilnahme aus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pr\u00e4sident Sassoli war seit 2009 Mitglied des Europ\u00e4ischen Parlamentes und fungierte als sein Pr\u00e4sident seit dem 3. Juli 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bevor er in die Politik ging, war er Journalist und ein sehr beliebter Nachrichtensprecher im italienischen Fernsehen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Seinen Kolleg*Innen zufolge, war er ein wahrer Demokrat und ein starker Bef\u00fcrworter eines vereinigten Europas.<\/span><\/p>\n
