As ASTRA progresses, we always need new people to fill different positions. Once a position opens up, we will publish it here.

Please note that in order to join ASTRA, you must be a student and in the greater Bremen area.

Aerodynamics Engineer

To strengthen our Aerodynamics Team, we are looking for an Aerodynamics Engineer to start working as soon as possible.

What we Offer:
– Experience working with a group of highly motivated students pushing the boundaries of hybrid rocket technology.
– Hands-on experience designing, testing, and constructing vehicle hardware that will fly to space.
– Chance to be part of the first student group to launch a hybrid rocket beyond the Karman Line.
Tasks:
– Participate in weekly aerodynamics team meetings.
– Design of the Nose Cone and Fins for the vehicle which will power Project Karman.
– Perform CFD analysis on the vehicle to determine the coefficient of drag throughout all regimes of flight (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic).
– Evaluate the aerodynamic stability of the vehicle in terms of perturbation resistance.
– Participate the testing campaigns to verify the aerodynamics model created.
– Produce reports throughout the various stages of the design and testing process which reflect the progress made.
– Interface with the structure and avionics teams for design of the Nose Cone deployment system and fin attachment methodology.
Desired Skills:
– Passion for Aerospace technology specifically with respect to space related applications and launch vehicles.
– Eagerness to step outside of your comfort zone and take on challenges where the answers may be unclear.
– Experience working in teams.
– Experience with CFD analysis.
– Understanding of flow behaviours through the sound barrier and into the hypersonic regime.
– Experience with manufacturing using carbon fiber, specifically pre-preg weaves.

Marketing Manager
What we Offer:
– Experience working with a group of highly motivated students pushing the boundaries of hybrid rocket technology.
– Practical experience building a brand and persona for an organization.
– Practical experience creating and managing content over social medial platforms to increase public awareness.
– Chance to be part of the first student group to launch a hybrid rocket beyond the Karman Line!
Tasks:
– Create content (with engineering input) for ASTRA’s social media platforms (Linkedin, Instagram, and Facebook).
– With input from the Project Management Team, plan, produce, and edit content for the ASTRA YouTube channel.
– Plan further ways in which ASTRA can expand its reach throughout the world.
– Assist the Financial Officer with ASTRA’s fundraising efforts.
– Participate in weekly meetings with the Project Management Team.
Desired Skills:
– Passion for Aerospace technology specifically with respect to space related applications, rocketry, and launch vehicles.
– High level of creativity.
– Good understanding of social media and strategies to become and remain relevant across multiple platforms.
– Comfortable with content creation tools (specifically video and image editing software).
– Eagerness to step outside of your comfort zone and take on challenges where the answers may be unclear.
– Experience working in teams.

Propulsion Engineer
To strengthen our Propulsion Team, we are looking for a Propulsion Engineer to start working as soon as possible.
 
What we Offer:
– Experience working with a group of highly motivated students pushing the boundaries of hybrid rocket technology.
– Hands-on experience designing, testing, and constructing vehicle hardware that will fly to space.
– Chance to be part of the first student group to launch a hybrid rocket beyond the Karman Line.
Tasks:
– Participate in weekly propulsion team meetings.
– Research and design of the Injector system of the propulsion system for Project Karman.
– Modelling of the oxidizer flow from the oxidizer tank to the combustion chamber.
– Modelling of the behaviour of Nitrous Oxide within the oxidizer tank as it is drained during the propulsive phase.
– Fuel grain regression analysis.
– Overall propulsion performance calculation describing the total impulse imparted by the propulsion system.
– Interface with the structure teams for design of the middle bulkhead and the nozzle connector.
Desired Skills:
– Passion for Aerospace technology specifically with respect to space related applications, rocketry, and launch vehicles.
– Eagerness to step outside of your comfort zone and take on challenges where the answers may be unclear.
– Experience working in teams.
– Understanding of heat transfer principles and fluid mechanics. Some experience with CFD would also be an asset.
– Familiarity with hybrid rocket technology and some of the prior designs which have been built with this technology.
– Experience testing engineering systems.
– Experience with matlab/python and CAD would also be an asset.
