L3, on the other hand, sees himself &#8220;as a little bit more academic orientated&#8221; than this collegues (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/03\/06\/interview-with-l3\/\" target=\"_blank\">Interview with L3<\/a>). What is interesting to see is that the two tutors define their degree of formality by different criteria: While L2 believes that her use of easy, non-academic language is the reason for her not sounding &#8220;like an academic&#8221; (<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"&quot;until someone told her: \u2018You don\u2019t sound like an academic\u2019 and she answered: \u2018Well, because I don\u2019t use all those big words\u2019.\u201d\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2015\/11\/19\/class-1-tutorial-03092015\/\" target=\"_blank\">Class 1: Tutorial 03\/09\/2015<\/a><\/span>), L3 names evidence and supported arguments as defining features of academic formality (<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"\u201cI like to think myself as a little bit more academic orientated. () Ehm I do do try to use a lot of evidence to support my arguments and not just be my opinion.\u201d\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/03\/06\/interview-with-l3\/\" target=\"_blank\">Interview with L3<\/a><\/span>).\u00a0His assumption that someone who is less academic does not use supported arguments, gives informality a rather negative connotation. This stands in contrast with L2&#8217;s idea of the issue who positively argues that informally written autobiographies, for example, might be easier to read than &#8220;an academic article \u2018with all those disgusting words in it\u2019\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2015\/11\/19\/class-1-tutorial-23112015\/\" target=\"_blank\">Class 1: Tutorial 29\/10\/2015<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>S2&#8217;s description of the staff as &#8220;really chatty and friendly&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/03\/21\/interview-with-s2\/\" target=\"_blank\">Interview with S2<\/a>) has a clearly positive connotation which depicts the connection between informality and a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/positive-learning-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\">positive learning environment<\/a>.
