I had a boyfriend that is Aboriginal. Ehm. () Ok. And how would you describe the way knowledge is conveyed in the ehm in the lecture and in the tutorial? () That we&#8217;re doing.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>I find that it&#8217;s done in a really different way to other courses. They do it in a more<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Sharing knowledge\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/sharing-knowledge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conversational<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>way rather than just the lecturing at you way. And I really like that. Heaps different to normal courses. How would you describe the way you learn in the course? () ()<br \/>\n[\u2026]<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">I found a lot of the stuff that I learned was from writing the essays and doing the powerpoint. Cause I had to do <u>so<\/u> much\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Independent learning\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/independent-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a><\/span> for that. Rather than what we learned in class, it was having to study for those things that was <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Effectiveness\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/effectiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">easier or more useful<\/a><\/span>. () Ok so ehm () When you say it&#8217;s different than in other courses what is different exactly? Can you describe that?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Yeah. So I studied psychology and social work and they are a bigger cohort in general and there&#8217;s no connection between the lecturer and the students. They just come and they do the lecture and they go. Whereas in this one you can have more\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Relationship\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/relationship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personal interaction<\/a><\/span> with the lecturer and talk to them about things that are\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Connection to students\u00b4 world\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/connection-to-students-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more important to you<\/a><\/span> and <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Relationship\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/relationship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">they know you individually<\/a><\/span>. () Completely different. () ()<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Lee Eisold, the researcher\">LE:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Ok. E::hm () So would you also say that the classes are structured differently? Or is it just the way the lecturer is or the tutors talk to you? () ()<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">I don&#8217;t know about it being <u>structured<\/u> differently. It&#8217;s the same format of essays and powerpoints and () things that you have to do. That sort of criteria. And the way the lecturer lectures, I mean, you have to have that lecture bit but it&#8217;s more what <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Effectiveness\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/effectiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">happens afterwards<\/a><\/span>. () I think it&#8217;s () different and it&#8217;s\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Connection to identity and culture\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/connection-to-identity-and-culture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in keeping with how Indigenous society is<\/a><\/span> anyway. It&#8217;s more conversational, it&#8217;s more\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Relationship\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/relationship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">relationships-based<\/a><\/span> and I find that this course and the other courses at the Institute are the same. <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Connection to identity and culture\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/connection-to-identity-and-culture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Based on the culture of what they&#8217;re teaching<\/a><\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Lee Eisold, the researcher\">LE:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">What other courses have you done in the Institute?<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Ehm I&#8217;m doing \u2013 cause I&#8217;m doing the Bachelor of Aboriginal Professional Practice \u2013 So I think I&#8217;ve- oh I can&#8217;t remember the subject names. But that was an intro to Aboriginal studies which lots of people through the university do cause I think it&#8217;s a requirement () for courses they&#8217;re doing. All my others are online. So online you are more distanced from your lecturer but they&#8217;re still\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Accessibility\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/accessibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">easily accessible<\/a><\/span> and they&#8217;re really\u00a0<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Informal vs. academic\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/informal-vs-academic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chatty and friendly and not all academic<\/a><\/span> so I found it really different.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Lee Eisold, the researcher\">LE:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Mhm (positive). A::nd ehm () I sometimes had the impression that ehm L3 also talked a lot about <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Storytelling\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/storytelling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personal experience<\/a><\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Yeah. That&#8217;s true. Yeah. And <u>that<\/u> \u2013 well done \u2013 because that is really different to the other lectures I&#8217;ve done as well. They don&#8217;t come up with personal experience. Stuff that they <u>academically<\/u> learned, perhaps if they&#8217;re worked in but it&#8217;s not personal.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Lee Eisold, the researcher\">LE:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Mhm (positive). And e::hm do you mean the other lectures in the the other subjects or<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">In other courses. Like in Social Work and Psychology. Not in this one. () Yeah, this one is really \u2013 the whole six courses \u2013 the lecturers <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"People and their background\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/people-and-their-background\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduce themselves to you<\/a><\/span>, who they are, what nation they&#8217;re from, they give you a bit of a background to themselves. Whereas the other courses don&#8217;t. You don&#8217;t know anything about the lecturers.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Lee Eisold, the researcher\">LE:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Mhm (postitive). I can be<\/strong> <\/span><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Relationship\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/relationship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more open and honest<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>and say \u2018I just don&#8217;t get this. Ehm or is it just-<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 68px\"><strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Student2, enrolled in Class 2\">S2:<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 493.79px\">Yeah no, <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">it has been really different and I think that&#8217;s because a lot of the resources, a lot of them are ehm like<\/span> \u2013 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">not just for L3&#8217;s course but the other ones \u2013 are rather reading not research (for course) but journal articles and () and a lot of it is watching\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Audiovisual learning\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/audiovisual-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube clips<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>which is really useful. I think he () I think he marked based on our understanding and our research but also on (our) responded to it. Could be just me but that&#8217;s how I felt he marked it. Cause that&#8217;s so different. And in the last lesson when he encouraged us to come back and talk to him and say hi and tell him how we&#8217;re doing, I think that&#8217;s \u2013 <span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Relationship\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/2016\/07\/26\/relationship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he cares about us<\/a><\/span>.
