To learn more about this process, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/categories\/what-is-coding-and-categorising\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, I wrote a memo for every category. For more information on memos, please click <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.uni-bremen.de\/aboriginalstudiesclasses\/what-are-integrative-memos\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The mind map and list below include <strong>all categories<\/strong> which I have found through coding my data. If you click on a category in the list, you will get to its <strong>integrative memo<\/strong>. The mind map visualises some, but by far not all <strong>connections between the categories<\/strong> which I created initially. For the analysis itself, however, it would be unusual to use every single category, <strong>many were dropped<\/strong> (<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Emerson, R M, Fretz R L and Shaw, L L 1995, &lt;em&gt;Writing Ethnographic Fieldnotes&lt;\/em&gt;, London: The University of Chicago Press. To decide which categories to keep, priority was given &#8220;to <strong>what seems significant<\/strong> to members&#8221; (<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Emerson, R M, Fretz R L and Shaw, L L 1995, &lt;em&gt;Writing Ethnographic Fieldnotes&lt;\/em&gt;, London: The University of Chicago Press. Print.\">Emerson et al. 1995: 157<\/span>). Having selected a main theme, I examined other categories to choose related topics and subthemes (<span class=\"tooltips \" style=\"\" title=\"Emerson, R M, Fretz R L and Shaw, L L 1995, &lt;em&gt;Writing Ethnographic Fieldnotes&lt;\/em&gt;, London: The University of Chicago Press. Print.\">Emerson et al. 1995: 158<\/span>). As can already be seen in the mind map, the <strong>connection to students&#8217; world<\/strong> is a very central topic in my data.
